Sri Lanka has been named the world’s most family friendly country for 2025, in a ranking by Condé Nast Traveller.
The rankings come from an immigration index launched by Remitly, an American remittance company. The index ranks 82 countries based on 24 factors including the quality of healthcare, economic strength, safety, migrant communities, public transport, the cost of living and digital connectivity.
One attribute considers how family friendly a country is, by considering data points such as the quality and accessibility of education, and cost of childcare.
Sri Lanka topped the list for its strong education system and low childcare costs. At only US$ 355 a year, childcare in Sri Lanka is far more affordable than in the US, where it costs around 16,440 dollars annually. Sweden ranked second, followed by Norway in third.
Meanwhile New Zealand, Iceland, Germany and Finland delivered strong educational outcomes, albeit at higher childcare costs.
Condé Nast Traveller, a trusted guide for luxury travel, also praises Sri Lanka for its outdoor activities, wildlife, beaches, cultural heritage, family friendly hotels and food, highlighting the country’s rising popularity as a top family destination.
