Michael Kors is taking his partnership with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to new heights with a renewed focus on sustainable, community driven solutions to fight global hunger.
Kors announced the next phase of Watch Hunger Stop, his decade long initiative with WFP, aimed at providing children with school meals that improve their health, promote education and support their families.
Building on this partnership, Kors is now supporting WFP’s innovative Home Grown School Feeding programme. The initiative provides local farmers and school meal caterers – particularly women – with training, infrastructure and access to local marketplaces, to grow and sell nutritious food.
On International Women’s Day, the American fashion designer shone a spotlight on the programme, which will launch in Sri Lanka. It aims to reach 300,000 children with consistent school meals, and help 1,000 local farmers supply eggs, vegetables and fruits.
Kors emphasised the importance of sustainable food systems, stating that he has “always believed that the fight against global hunger is one we can win.” This initiative addresses immediate hunger and strengthens local economies by offering farmers valuable resources.
Cindy McCain, Executive Director of WFP, praised Kors’ commitment, noting that the brand’s support will expand the programme’s reach and enable more children to benefit from reliable meals.
