LankaPay, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and Alipay+ have entered into a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening the local tourism industry and increasing international visitor arrivals.
The partnership brings together Alipay+ (Ant International’s unified wallet gateway) with LankaPay’s local integration, enabling access to over 1.8 billion user accounts across more than 40 international e-wallet and banking partners.
Through targeted digital campaigns, the initiative aims to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination and attract higher value tourists.
As part of the agreement, Alipay+ users will receive exclusive offers and promotions when using LankaQR, which is Sri Lanka’s national quick response (QR) payment system. This is expected to encourage tourist spending.
The collaboration supports SLTDA’s strategy to focus on Asia and the Asia-Pacific, improving Sri Lanka’s visibility and accessibility across these markets. It also marks the first phase of a broader partnership between LankaPay and SLTDA aimed at long-term tourism development.
At the same time, the initiative encourages digital payment adoption among micro and small merchants by enabling cross border QR payments, helping them reach international customers and participate in the wider digital economy while supporting Sri Lanka’s broader financial services industry transformation.
