Taavi Samaraweera, a young table tennis prodigy from S. Thomas’ College, is making waves on the global stage. At only nine years old, he’s ranked 11th in the world in the Under 11 boys category and 67th in the Under 13 boys category – the highest ranking achieved by a Sri Lankan player in any age group.
The youngster’s journey began at the age of four under the guidance of his father, an internationally renowned coach with over a decade of experience, whose expertise and training techniques have been instrumental in shaping Taavi into the player he is today.
In Sri Lanka, he has claimed several all island titles and secured the top spot in the Under 11 rankings. Internationally, he’s competed in World Table Tennis Youth Contender events in Turkey, Qatar and Lebanon, and showcased his talent on the European circuit in Slovakia, Hungary and Italy, where he defeated top players.
Samaraweera’s unmatched paddling skills and competitive spirit make him a force to be reckoned with – and if his rapid ascent is any indication, the world of table tennis is in for an exciting future with him at the helm.
