Between 24 and 27 April, the West End licensed musical La Bamba! The Song of Veracruz transformed City of Dreams Sri Lanka into a vibrant hub of Latin pop and Mexican folk storytelling. The production featured a powerhouse international cast alongside locally selected talent, marking a cultural milestone for the region.

The stage was led by West End veterans Madalena Alberto (celebrated for her roles in Les Misérables and Evita) and Eduardo Enriquez (whose extensive credits include On Your Feet and Miss Saigon). They were joined by Tim Mahendren (& Juliet), Mychele LeBrun and Charlotte Dos Santos Chabi, who made a standout professional debut as Sofia.

A defining feature of the run was the integration of a local cast, chosen through rigorous auditions. This collaboration saw Sri Lankan performers rehearse and perform under professional direction, bridging the gap between local artistry and international theatre standards.

Across its four day run, which included both evening and matinee performances, the production drew audiences into a high energy blend of live music and dance. The initiative transcended the stage, acting as a cultural catalyst that proved the city can compete as a leading venue for world-class large-scale productions.
