Sri Lanka was ranked the top destination to visit in October by international travel magazine Time Out, which released its annual list of the 11 best places to travel.
The ranking placed Sri Lanka ahead of other leading destinations such as Türkiye, New Mexico, Valencia, New York City, the Philippines, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Timișoara in Romania, San Francisco and Namibia.
According to Time Out, October is one of the best months to experience the island, falling within the shoulder season when airfares and hotel rates are more affordable and crowds are smaller.
The feature noted that even amid intermittent monsoon showers, Sri Lanka’s natural beauty – from rolling hills and scenic train routes to sun kissed beaches – remains accessible and inviting.
The magazine highlighted Sri Lanka’s diverse appeal, from the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya and tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya, to beach towns such as Mirissa and Bentota, and safari adventures in Yala and Udawalawe National Parks. It also noted the growing design and boutique scene in Galle, which is attracting international creatives.
Time Out praised Sri Lanka’s blend of culture, nature and value for money, calling it a destination that offers “a little bit of everything.”
