Seventeen year old Yevan David made history at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Portugal, by becoming the first Sri Lankan to win races in the EuroFormula Open Championship.

Driving for Team Motopark, the Dubai based David finished third in Race 1 before claiming back-to-back victories in Races 2 and 3. Remarkably, his performance put him at the top of the 2025 championship standings with 65 points.

In Race 2, David moved from fourth to first place by lap five, securing both his maiden win of the season and Motopark’s first victory of the campaign.

He followed up in Race 3 with another impressive drive from fifth to first place, weaving his way through multiple safety car interruptions before the race concluded under red flag conditions.

Supported by Merc Stop, Alcom, Dayholi and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, the former X30 Asian karting champion now leads the title race heading into the next round at Spa-Francorchamps.

Already a standout in Formula 4, Eurocup-3 and the FIA Motorsport Games, David’s triumph in Portugal cements his place as the most successful Sri Lankan in single seater racing history.
